GWWCA May’s Membership Meeting

Our next GWWCA membership meeting will be held on May 18, 2021, at 7 PM using Zoom software.  Our primary speaker is  Sandy Woiak, GISP, a Fairfax County GIS Spatial Analyst.  GIS is an acronym for Geographic Information System.  The county has over 100 GIS application, but Sandy will only be discussing these five (5):

  • Jade – Fairfax County viewer with a comprehensive spatial data catalog and tools for generating maps and reports
  • My Neighborhood – an interactive mapping application that allows users to find information related to addresses in Fairfax County
  • Digital Map Viewer – an online mapping application that aids users in viewing and downloading pages from official Fairfax County map books
  • Historical Imagery Viewer – contains years of imagery for which Fairfax County has digital holdings
  • Supervisor District Viewer – an interactive mapping application designed to find and explore features, including public facilities and electoral and other boundaries, within a selected district

Sandy will describe what these applications do, show how to navigate to the application’s web page, and display sample reports.  This is not a hands-on presentation of how to use these applications.  It would take many hours to present that information. There is usage documentation on each application’s webpage and the county has “how to use” videos on YouTube.

The link to the Zoom session will be distributed to GWWCA members closer to the meeting date.
